Face of America is less than seven weeks away – and we CANNOT WAIT!

Check out our 2021 Face of America jersey design! Each Face of America registered athlete will receive a jersey upon check-in at the Hyatt Regency in Arlington on October 8th. Want the matching shorts? Upgrade from your current registration to our exclusive Chairman's Club, and you'll receive your pair at check-in on Friday afternoon. By committing to raise $2,000 or greater by the October 1st commitment date, our Chairman's Club athletes will receive premium benefits. Each Club athlete will receive an invitation to our VIP Chairman's Reception in Arlington Friday afternoon, a pair of our Face of America Athlos cycling bibs/shorts. Our Chairman's Club Pair registration rate extends these benefits to two athletes. Registrations are limited for this rate, so send an email commitment to Patti Haley today requesting your upgrade.

Need help with fundraising? We are here! Let us know if you need help navigating your Fundraising HQ, have any questions about using social media to fundraise, or just need a pep talk.

Military Highlight:

Face of America Gettysburg honors our active duty, veterans and first responders. This month we highlight our participants from the Coast Guard. Recently celebrating its 231st birthday, the Coast Guard is a branch of our military, a federal law enforcement agency protecting our coast lines and waterways, and a humanitarian service responding to natural disasters and other emergencies. Learn more about the Coast Guard and thank a Coastie this October.

Fundraising Highlight:

What a great incentive for donors -  CARES ACT allows taxpayers who do not itemize to deduct up $300 per individual or $600 per joint return on their 2021 taxes.

COVID Update:

Together with our Board of Directors and medical professionals, we are continuing to monitor the COVID-19 situation, evaluating risks, and reviewing Public Health guidance. We have created a webpage that we will update with information on a regular basis. Some adjustments for FOA 2021 include:

  • Friday registration as well as the Kickoff Celebration will be held outdoors under tents adjacent to the Hyatt Regency Crystal City
  • Disposable masks and sanitizer will be available at registration, start lines, finish lines, and rest stops as well as in support vehicles
  • Each rider and volunteer will receive a long breathable polyester sport neck gaiter
  • Masks are highly encouraged indoors and at rest stops and at other places of congregation
  • Extra shuttles and buses will be provided to ensure greater social distancing
  • All Staff and volunteers will be required to be vaccinated

We will enable individuals to keep safe distances in line with their personal preferences, and still put on a fantastic World T.E.A.M. inclusive event. This guidance is expected to evolve as we approach October, so please bookmark the page to remain updated.

As always, if you have any questions, please reach out to Jon Brideau. THANK YOU for being a part of our TEAM and our Face of America Family. We look forward to seeing you all in October!

July 2021

Face of America News:

We are energized by the enthusiasm of our supporters, and happy to announce our new goal for 2021. With the support and encouragement of our Board of Directors and Host Committee Team Captains, we are setting our event fundraising goal to $750,000 for 2021! This goal will ensure that the organization will operate and serve our athletes in 2021, but will also help recover from 2020. We are so thankful to the many that have already started fundraising, including going above and beyond their individual goals already! (see our top fundraisers) We are also grateful to our loyal sponsors who have committed to supporting our 2021 program.

This year, our Friday night kickoff will be held outdoors! That’s right – fresh air, fresh food, cold beer. We have secured a space next to the Hyatt and will have tents set up with food trucks providing dinner. In addition, we are thrilled to announce that The Earls of Kent will be performing for us on Friday! They perform a wide variety of 70s, 80s, 90s rock, classic rock, southern rock and blues covers, check out one of their recent shows! Follow their Facebook page and say “thank you” as the band has waived its fee, as a thank you to our veteran participants.

Military Highlight:

Face of America Gettysburg honors our active duty, veterans and first responders. This month we highlight our hardworking Marine volunteers from MCB Quantico. Each year, Marines from MCB Quantico donate personal time to support our program. These Marines help with the set up on Friday and the preparation of our rest stop supplies, drive the trucks along the route, and help manage our finish line at Brown’s Ranch. During FOA weekend, please, take a moment to say thank you to them.

This takes about three weeks after the close of any social media fundraiser. You may also share your direct fundraising link in a post. Remember to make your posts “public” so your friends can share your story to their friends!

He was awarded the Bronze Star, three Army Commendation Medals, one for Valor, as well as several other medals. Jim has been a passionate supporter of our Face of America Program, and is part of Team American Portfolios.

Every day is Ride Your Bike Day with World TEAM, and June 21st is National Selfie Day! What better way to celebrate both than to take a picture of yourself – in World TEAM gear – training for Face of America. Post to your social media in the month of June, using #wearefaceofamerica and you could win sunglasses. And of course, we expect the winner to wear the cool specs during FOA. Congrats to our winner of the May social media bike light giveaway Geoffrey Moulton!

Route Highlight:

Our finish line again this year is Brown’s Ranch. This 232-acre private farm borders the Military Park and is being preserved as an agricultural property. During the July 1863 Battle of Gettysburg, the house on the farm was used as headquarters for Confederate General A.P. Hill, commander of the 3rd corps for General Robert E. Lee's army. Cycling into Brown's Ranch, athletes will ride down the long private driveway, lined with American flags and ahead the historic farm buildings. There, we will celebrate with delicious barbecue, cold beer and we are hoping – good weather! We are grateful to have you as a part of our TEAM and our Face of America Family. We look forward to seeing you all in October!

Military Highlight:

Face of America Gettysburg honors our veterans and first responders. This month, we recognize our participants from the National Guard. Serving both their communities and their country, members of the National Guard play a critical role during national emergencies, while also remaining a ready force for supporting military operations overseas. Mandy Kloepfer served in the Army National Guard. Read her story and ride with her in October!

Fundraising Tip:

Fundraising is in high gear and we are here to help. This month’s tip is about Goal Setting. Your commitment is the amount you agreed to raise when you registered. But, you can increase your goal to any amount you choose. As you start to get towards, or exceed your commitment, adjust your goal upwards to encourage more donations. Remember, changing your goal does not affect your commitment. Need help? Send us an email.

We are grateful to have you as a part of our TEAM and our Face of America Family. We look forward to seeing you all in October!
